US Democrats naghain ng impeachment articles vs Pentagon chief

Ipinakilala ng US House Democrats ang anim na articles of impeachment laban kay Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth nitong Miyerkules, Abril 15 at inakusahan ito ng “high crimes and misdemeanors” kabilang ang giyera sa Iran nang walang congressional approval.
Ang impeachment resolution ay pinangunahan ni Yassamin Ansari, isang Democratic Congresswoman mula sa Arizona, at may maliit na tsansa na makapasa dahil sa Republican majority sa Kongreso.
“I’ve introduced Articles of Impeachment against Pete Hegseth for violating his oath, endangering U.S. servicemembers, and committing war crimes, including attacks on civilians and a girls’ school in Minab, Iran,” ani Ansari.
“Only Congress can declare war; his actions demand immediate removal.”
Sa unang impeachment article, sinabi na si Hegseth ay nagsimula ng gulo sa Iran “without a declaration of war or specific statutory authorization by the Congress,” at “knowingly exposing members of the Armed Forces of the United States to substantial and foreseeable risk of injury or death.”
Pinapanagot din sa isa pang Article sa Hegseth na responsable sa strike sa isang paaralan sa Iran noong Pebrero 28, o araw kung saan nagsimulang bombahin ng Estados Unidos at Israel ang Iran na kumitil sa buhay ng 170 katao kabilang ang mga estudyante at guro.
Si Defense secretary Hegseth “has authorized, condoned, or failed to prevent the use of military force in a manner inconsistent with the law of armed conflict,” katulad ng strike sa paaralan, ayon pa sa dokumento.
Binatikos din ng Democrats si Hegseth sa tinawag na “double tap” strikes. Ang double tap strike ay illegal umano.
Kabilang pa sa ibang alegasyon ay ang “negligence and reckless handling” ng sensitive military information, maging ang paglabag sa congressional oversight, na tumutukoy sa paggamit ni Hegsteth ng commercial messaging app na Signal para pag-usapan ang mga strike sa Yemen.
Ayon naman kay Pentagon press secretary Kingsley Wilson, “this is just another Democrat trying to make headlines as the Department of War decisively and overwhelmingly achieved the Presidents’ objectives in Iran.”
