A total of 34 families lost their homes, while 15 residents were reported injured in a fire that engulfed around 70 individuals in Caloocan City the other night.
The fire started in a house in Barangay 160 East Libis, Baesa, at around 10:35 PM, with the cause still undetermined. It quickly spread to neighboring homes, most of which were made of wood.
Due to the rapid spread of the flames, many residents panicked while trying to save their valuables, resulting in minor burns and injuries from stepping on sharp objects.
The Caloocan Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) admitted difficulty in extinguishing the fire promptly because their fire trucks couldn’t enter the narrow roads leading to the area.
“What happened was, most of the fire trucks had to be stationed near NLEX, and we just connected the fire hoses to reach the fire,” said the Commander of Talipapa Fire Station.
The fire reached second alarm level before being controlled by firefighters at 12:17 AM, and was officially declared fire out by 12:41 AM on Sunday.
The affected families are temporarily staying at the covered court of Barangay 160. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported, although the fire destroyed an estimated ₱500,000 worth of property. Authorities are still investigating the cause.(RPanizal)
