Posibleng maharap sa kasong kriminal ang apat na “Maleta Boys” matapos bawiin ang kanilang mga naunang alegasyon kaugnay ng flood control scandal, ayon kay Assistant Ombudsman Mico Clavano nitong Martes.
Matatandaang inakusahan ng 18 “Maleta Boys”, na dating mga bodyguard umano ni dating Congressman Zaldy Co, na naghatid sila ng mga maletang may lamang pera bilang kickback mula sa mga flood control project sa ilang personalidad, kabilang si dating Speaker Martin Romualdez.
Kalaunan, binawi ng apat sa mga ito ang kanilang mga pahayag.
“There are indications that the panel of investigators may implead as part of the plunder charge the former security escorts of Zaldy Co, four of whom recently allegedly recanted their earlier statement implicating the former Speaker and Co and other officials in the alleged cash deliveries at the heart of this case,” ani Clavano sa isang press conference.
Gayunman, hindi pa umano pormal na natatanggap ng panel of investigators ang opisyal na recantation ng apat na “Maleta Boys”, kahit natanggap na ng Ombudsman ang kopya nito bilang kalakip sa counter-affidavit ni Romualdez.
“Interestingly, the panel of investigators has not yet received an official copy of the recantations of the former bodyguards. The supposed recantations were, however, already attached to the counter-affidavit submitted by the former Speaker,” dagdag ni Clavano.
Nahaharap si Romualdez sa mga reklamong plunder, graft, direct bribery at money laundering kaugnay ng umano’y pagkakasangkot sa flood control scandal. Mariin naman niyang itinanggi ang mga alegasyon.
